| Welcome
The Plantin Society gives an advanced course for anyone who works in the broad field of
graphic communication. The
students are offered a
mass of printing and typographic knowledge and skills and explore the
historical
background to their work, while also looking at recent developments and
contemporary techniques. In addition to its educational objectives, the
Plantin Society also tries to stimulate interest in typography by means
of specific
activities. The lessons are given in the
Christopher Plantin Auditorium at the Plantin-Moretus Museum/Print Room, where
the most eminent publishing company of the Netherlands was once housed. It was
world famous for the care it devoted to its publications. Prospectus The course at the Plantin Society covers many aspects of the printing sector, each taught by a
specialist. This knowledge is approached from a theoretical angle but also
looks at its practical application. In the first year the emphasis
is on the basic principles of typography, the various printing methods and book
techniques. In the second year the accent shifts to the application of graphic
design to a wide range of end products such as newspapers, magazines, posters
and so on. Practical
details The lessons are given in Dutch
and are held on Saturdays over a two-year period. The next course starts in
September 2009. The enrolment fee is 1000 euro per academic year. Want to know
